New South Wales is Australia's most populous state with a population of 6.5 million people. The New South Wales Registry asked KE Software to implement a customised vital statistics package in 1993. 170 concurrent users access 24 million records. Record data dates back to the initial European settlement of Australia in 1788. 150,000 vital events are registered per year.
KE Software's system offers the Registry an integrated approach to the processing, management, auditing and marketing of life event products and services. The superior design of KE Software's interface and the automated administration of many key aspects of the system provide a total solution for the New South Wales Registry.
KE Software has enabled the Registry to substantially improve efficiency and provide services to rural and remote clients that are equivalent to those of city residents. Profitability has increased significantly via new and improved services and cost reduction. The role of certificates as core identification documents has been reaffirmed through the services the Registry is now able to offer.
Web Services
The Registry website is a great commercial success and averages 1.5 million page views per month. 1 million of these page views are Index Searches. The Registry's web services generate over US$500,000 per annum in new revenue and cost savings. The Registry provides a number of web services:
- Online Credit Card Validation
KE Software developed an interface to an online Credit Card validation server to enable Credit Card sales in real time. The Registry processes an average of US$28,000 per month in transactions. This service began in February 2001. - Online Death Registration
Funeral Directors can submit notices of death interactively or in a batch over the internet. This results in more efficient processing of death registrations, faster response times and more accurate data. 40% of deaths are recorded in this way, representing a saving US$40,000 per annum in data entry. - Online Certificate Validation
The online validation confirms that the information on a birth certificate matches that recorded for an actual life event. It also supports validations for certificates from the State of Victoria through a joint venture with the Victorian Registry. This service reaffirms the importance of the birth certificate in the arena of personal identification as used by a number of State and Federal government departments.
The NSW transactions alone currently generate revenue of US$100,000 per annum. - LifeSearch
Authorised external agencies use secure web access to search indices and current records. - Wills Register
- Management Information
KE Software's vital records package incorporates an intranet-driven system that allows staff to gather usage statistics on all web services. This facility is also used to derive information for accounting purposes. - System Administration
KE Software's vital records package includes a control panel for all aspects of system usage and web services. IT staff use the information gathered from frequent scans of critical systems and services to pro-actively analyse system performance. Issues are identified and rectified prior to any degradation in service levels.
